Terrorist in SMSU schedule labeled a travesty
March 31, 2004
It is a travesty that when the United States is waging a war on terror, Kamran Bokhari, who has been named in connection with the Springfield Islamic Center and an Al Qaeda terrorist fundraising operation now under investigation by the U.S.Treasury Department,is scheduled to speak in the capacity of a Stratfor analyst, at a Public Affairs Forum on terrorism together with State Department official David Ballard. The Militant Islamic Monitor is urging SMSU and all those involved to cancel Kamran Bokhari's appearance at this event".

In 1999 Kamran Bokhari, then a leader of the Muslim Student Association at SMSU and head of the Islamic Center of Southwest Missouri, responded to an article in the SMSU Standard entitled "Terrorism a Threat to Society" with the piece, Freedom Fighters Now Being called Terrorists", where he stated:"Iam quite amazed at how fighting occupation forces can be convienently and arbitrarily dubbed as 'terrorism.' If this is the case, then Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin, could be considered terrorists by the U.S. government"...As a Muslim, I am concerned that through this “Get Ussamah Bin Ladin” campaign, the U.S. government is trying to distort and obscure reality."

On February 20, 2004, Jonathan Mintz wrote in the Washington Post that: "The Treasury Department ordered banks yesterday to freeze the accounts of the Oregon and Missouri branches of a large Saudi charity that U.S. officials say has been used to finance the al Qaeda terrorist network around the world.....The affidavit also disclosed that a federal grand jury has been investigating al-Haramain's U.S. operations. The U.S. branch of the charity has mainly distributed Islamic books and videos to Americans, and also helped establish a mosque in Springfield with more than $370,000 provided by the Saudi headquarters." One of the top leaders of that mosque reportedly was Kamran Bokhari who was the U.S. representative of a London based group called Al-Muhajiroun which supports Al Qaeda" Bokhari invited the head of Al Muhajiroun, Anjem Choudary, to speak at the Muslim Student Aociation symposium on April 12, 2000 under a $800 grant from the SMSU Public Affairs Program.

Last week Dr. Daniel Pipes wrote that "Al Muhajiroun ... celebrated the first anniversary of 9/11 with a conference titled," Towering Day in History." It celebrated the second anniversary by hailing "The Magnificent 19." Its website currently features a picture of the U.S. Capitol building exploding...At least one Al-Muhajiroun member went to Israel to engage in suicide terrorism. Al-Muhajiroun appears to be connected to one of the 9/11 hijackers, Hani Hanjour....."
