JEFFERSON CITY - State Senator Charlie Shields (R-St. Joseph) commended the Missouri Development Finance Board's unanimous vote today approving $25 million in tax credits that in part will be used as a vital step in securing St. Joseph and Missouri Western State University as the new home of the Kansas City Chiefs training camp. Shields has worked for several years to bring the current Wisconsin-based training camp to Missouri. The facility is expected to open in 2010.
"This is a win for the people of Missouri by bringing the Kansas City Chiefs training camp to the team's home state, helping local tourism and giving easier access for fans to follow the pre-season," Shields said. "Thanks to Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder's leadership on this state board, the tax credits will soon be in place, making the training camp move one step closer to reality."
The bulk of the tax credits will go for improvements to Arrowhead Stadium, a publicly owned facility, where the Chiefs professional football team plays.
